Creation
Of The Four Gods
Story
in ancient Chinese history has it that Nu Kwa, who was a mythical empress
of China, became a goddess after she passed on to the celestial region.
At some time, demons of fire and water who were aided by rebel generals
of her empire set out to destroy the world.
Nu
Kwa waged war against them, sending her heavenly warriors to fight the
demons. However, one of her gigantic warriors destroyed part of the heavens
by upsetting one of its pillars. This caused flood to fall onto the earth,
drowning everthing in its wake. To solve the catastrophe, Nu Kwa stemmed
the rising waters using charred reeds and then rebuilt the broken pillar.
Thereafter,
to prevent further danger, she created guardians for the four quarters,
each presiding over the four cardinal directions and the seasons. |
